The news reaching us indicates that the Jakarta Post quoted an official from Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency as saying that the flight have crashed in waters about 80 to 100 nautical miles from Belitung, Channel News Asia reported.
According to report from the International Business Times, Fishermen reportedly heard a loud bang over Belitung Island between 7 and 8 a.m., citing Indonesian website Bangka Tribun News.
Belitung is an island on the east coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, in the Java Sea, IBT noted.
The fishermen who were at sea engaged in their regular fishing activities near Coconut Island also claimed that the explosion was quite powerful, the outlet added.
Indonesia’s authorities: there is no possibility for missing flight #QZ8501 to continue flying. Only had fuel for 4.5hrs.
However, there is currently no image of the wreckage nor the crash site.We still hope that the 162 passengers on board will be rescued
