Is It Cake?
Let’s face it – most of us are not professional pastry chefs. We might be pretty good bakers… maybe we’ve managed to produce a decent tray of brownies or chocolate chip cookies… maybe we’ve managed to add oil, water, and eggs to a Betty Crocker yellow cake mix and not dry it out completely. But we probably didn’t get a boulangerie diploma at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
So, when trying to replicate a beautiful cake you saw in a cookbook or in an online recipe, you’re probably just setting yourself up for disappointment. Chances are it will taste OK, or maybe even be delicious – but it (probably) will never look as good as in the picture. You know cakes are photoshopped too, right? Not only models.
