Honorable mention: Gene Sarazen
Gene Sarazen is one of the best golfers in history and one of the few who achieved a “Grand Slam” in his career. At the time of his death, he was worth an estimated $17 million.
One of the most prominent golfers of the 1920’s and 30’s, Sarazen was one of the original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He was also awarded the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award and had 49 professional wins throughout his career. Sarazen passed away in 1999.
