Taro Pie in China
If you really want to get a taste of local delicacies when traveling abroad, you need to check out the McDonald’s dessert menu. McDonald’s apple pie is as American as, well, apple pie, but you can find other kinds of fillings (and even crusts) when visiting other countries. For instance, China’s crispy pie pocket is stuffed with a taro paste instead of apples.
The taro pie in China isn’t as sweet as its apple counterpart, and it’s missing that bit of chew you get when biting into a halfway-mushed apple bit. But the paste-like filling is unique in flavor and color. The filling is mushy but in a good way (it’s hard to describe).
