We don’t always like to admit it, but we don’t know that much about the origins of the language that we use in our everyday life. It turns out that a great many of our modern English phrases come from ancient civilizations all over the globe. Think about that the next time you use any of these words or phrases.

#1: “Achilles’ Heel”

I hope that at least some of you have seen the movie Troy, and it won’t come as a complete surprise that Achilles was a figure in Greek mythology. Achilles (yes, that’s Brad Pitt in the movie) was supposed to be an invincible warrior, whose heel was his only weakness. Today, one’s weakness is their ‘Achilles’ Heel’.
