That’s What You Call Exaggeration
Sometimes, tabloids will print anything to get people’s attention and spread panic. Take, for example, the time when Daily Express printed an article about an asteroid that would close in on earth and likely end human civilization. Well, we’re all still here so clearly that was an exaggeration by the writer.
We think the author was confused by the “4.1 km” mentioned by NASA. This was not how close the asteroid would get but the measurement of the asteroid itself. As pointed out by Noah Rothman, it was supposed to actually pass within 3,908,791 million miles of Earth so there was no real danger of collision.
