The 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun’s (Tutankhamun means ‘Living Image of Amun’) by Howard Carter was beyond incredible. The tomb was nearly intact, and the news received worldwide press coverage all the time. The discovery sparked a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt. Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, during the period of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom.
Tutankhamun was nine years old when he became Pharaoh and reigned for about ten years; his death may have occurred unexpectedly, prior to the completion of his grander tomb. Do you remember all those terrifying killer mummy movies of the 20s and the 30s? Well, they were inspired by this phenomenal discovery.
