Jewish Families Stand In Sand Dunes That Would Become Tel Aviv, 1909
This photograph marks the official establishment of the city Tel Aviv, in Israel. When a group of Jewish families decided to move out of Jaffa, they bought the sand dunes land next to it. They knew the work ahead of them was a hard one, but they believed they were able to accomplish something great, a new, modern and vibrant Jewish city.
The group gathered that day to distribute the land, and as the legend goes, they did that by using seashells. Today, Tel Aviv is one of the biggest cities in Israel, with over 500,000 residents. It is nicknamed “The First Hebrew City”.
