Japanese pesos?

Since when did the Japanese use pesos? We thought they used yen and possibly yuan at one point, though our history might be completely wrong. It turns out that yes, we are, in fact, incorrect. There was such a thing as Japanese pesos at one point.

It was during World War 2, to be exact. When Japan occupied the Philippines, the Japanese government issued pesos to the occupants as a way to conduct business. The Japanese peso was in print between 1944 and 1945 until they were shooed out of the Philippines. There were even 1,000-peso notes, which could sell for quite a lot of money if in mint condition.
