An unknown message
If we found old-looking jewelry, we’d want to get answers about when it was made to get the most out of it when we pawn it. That was probably this person’s thought process, or maybe they were just confused why this necklace had a piece of paper inside of it.
It didn’t take long for someone to reveal the truth behind this mysterious piece of neck jewelry. This is a mezuzah, which is typically hung on doorways of Jewish households but also takes the form of a piece of jewelry that usually contains a passage from the Torah. The piece of parchment hidden inside of the cylindrical compartment is called a klaf.
