This is how we all want to receive declarations of love – in very ambiguous wording and with aspersions cast as to the reliability of the statement. It’s a much clearer sign of affection than being told that we are unequivocally loved a lot and a much better message to plaster onto a cake.

While I was being sarcastic when I said that, I do think there’s some amount of truth to it. It’s possible that this cake-giver is afraid of intimacy, so they can’t allow themselves to be vulnerable and honest, but it’s also possible that they just genuinely believe that really showing love is more important than grand statements. We’ll never really know, I guess.
