I suppose when a large group of people achieves a certain quality of life, adopts a particular pursuit, and then gets old, that pursuit gets old with them. Thus, golf goes from being the territory of young rich folks to that of middle-aged rich folks and eventually to elderly ones.

Once golf appears to be a pastime mainly limited to older players, it becomes less attractive to younger players, cementing itself even further as an old person’s game. So when the generation of golfers leaves this world, I’m afraid that might put the nail in the coffin for the game itself. But it’ll free up some real estate.
