Robert Smith and Mary Poole, 1988
Robert Smith is one of the most prominent names in the goth subculture. His band The Cure introduced goth music and goth look to a wider audience. When Smith met Mary Pooley at a prep school in Crawley, England he knew she would one day be his forever. Pooley was the inspiration for the band’s hit song “Love Song” and joined Smith in holy matrimony shortly after the song was released in 1988.
Robert once revealed in an interview, “I just struck lucky early on.” Amazingly, the two are still married (we only say “amazingly” judging by how common it is for celebrity marriages to end in divorce). While the singer toned down his iconic on-stage look for the wedding, he couldn’t give up his goth iconic goth makeup altogether, and he wore eye-catching eye makeup and lipstick matching his wife’s.
