Prince Albert swept Queen Victoria off her feet with youth, polish, intelligence, and enough Germanic seriousness to make responsibility look romantic. He wasn’t the reckless poet type; he was the excellent-husband type, which in Victorian terms was practically erotic infrastructure. Victoria adored him with volcanic intensity, and after his death, mourned him for decades. Albert’s appeal was order, devotion, dignity, and very good hair in a uniform.
