#19: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had the sturdy, mustachioed appeal of the Victorian gentleman-adventurer: athletic, medically trained, cricket-playing, energetic, and intellectually formidable. He created Sherlock Holmes but personally seemed less like a thin detective and more like the man you’d trust to organize an expedition, argue a case, and still make dinner. His charm was muscular respectability. A safe pair of hands, with literary royalties. Very efficient.
