Grace Coolidge’s White House Racoon
First Lady Grace Coolidge took her raccoon for walks around the White House frequently. This special raccoon named “Rebecca” made everyone so fond of her that she eventually became a White House official pet. The President even built a house for Rebecca. Just a few of the things that the President has to do to keep his wife happy.
I wanted to know how a raccoon becomes a White House pet and found something exciting. A White House tale says that Rebbeca was targeted to become the Thanksgiving dinner that year, but her charms changed her fate; the President and his wife adopted the creature. The stars must have aligned for Rebecca because it would have been unfortunate to become a thanksgiving meal.
