Being prepared
Alvarenga and Cordoba’s story does highlight one thing. If you take nothing else from reading this, it’s the need to be prepared. The two men thought they were going out on a regular fishing trip which would be over and done with in less than 30 hours. The reality was much more terrifying.

It’s true, though, that if they had checked the charge on their radio, the battery on their phone, or brought an anchor, they would have been rescued much more quickly. Being prepared for any eventuality, especially out on the ocean is an important thing to remember, no matter how experienced you are.
