The castaway
Alvarenga looked fairly different crawling along the beach of Tile Island than he had when he left Mexico 14 months previously. He was naked, super skinny, basically a skin-covered skeleton. He had survived for over a year on minimal food and water, and could hardly stand for more than a few seconds.
Libokmento was husking coconuts and saw Alvarenga approaching, half-crazed. Although nervous at first, the couple took him in, thinking he must have fallen off a ship and swam to their island. They gave him food and water and tended his wounds. They knew he needed more than they could provide, however.
