The locals
Alvarenga had found himself lying face down on the shore of Tile Islet, on the tip of the group of Marshall Islands. 438 days after he set off, he had landed on a paradise belonging to Emi Libokmeto and Russel Laikidrik. They were the only inhabitants and weren’t used to seeing anyone, let alone skinny castaways.

Tile Islet is literally in the middle of nowhere. 4,000 miles south of Alaska and 2,500 miles north of Brisbane, Australia. Alvarenga was beyond lucky that he’d washed up there, as shocked as the resident couple was to have him arrive on their shores.
