Beginning the search
Willy didn’t waste time; he called the authorities, who sent out a search party for the floating fishermen. Aircraft and boats began the tough task of locating the men and their boat and bringing them back home. Without a GPS location, and knowing that the craft could be floating anywhere it wasn’t to be.
After 48 hours of searching, the authorities called off the rescue party. They were battling with terrible weather, and visibility was poor. Even if they had known where to look it would have been almost impossible to find Alvarenga and Cordoba in these conditions. They had to rely on the fishing boat drifting back to land.
