We’re quite sure you have no idea what this one is. We didn’t know, but we had a few sinister guesses. For those of you who know what it is, hats off to you. What might this be? Was someone trying to preserve something inside the bottle? Or did the thing grow inside the bottle? Luckily, people on the sub-Reddit r/whatisthisthing had the answers.

Someone on the internet knew exactly what is in the bottle, which, in our opinion, is very impressive indeed because we wouldn’t have been able to guess what it was. The content of that bottle is called SCOBY, which stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, and it is formed when kombucha is made.
