Behind-the-Scenes Tragedies That Affected the Cast of TV’s Deadliest Catch

April 26, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Keep Rolling!

Captain Phil Harris had a stroke while hunting for opilio crab in season six of Deadliest Catch. Despite the severity of the stroke, the captain did not want the cameras to stop recording. He wanted filmmakers present to show the world what sort of health conditions he went through for their entertainment. Because Phil understood the story had to end, the camera crew kept shooting even as he was flown to safety.

Captain Harris had emergency brain surgery in Anchorage, Alaska, and his recovery seemed to be on track. Sadly, Phil died just a few days later from a brain bleed, leaving his family, friends, and fans devastated.
