There is a lot of waiting, and it takes the camera and editing crew a heck of a lot of time to go through 30,000 hours of footage per season.
That’s a lot of information for editors to sort through. Camera crews go through more than a dozen cameras per season, and not because they keep tossing them overboard. The ocean, mist, and high gusts of wind basically destroy the cameras.
