Behind-the-Scenes Tragedies That Affected the Cast of TV’s Deadliest Catch

April 26, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Drug Problems

Elliott Neese served as the captain of a ship in season 11. However, he left the show and was replaced by Jeff Folk. A lot of people wondered why Elliott abruptly left the show in 2015 until it was revealed in May of that year he had joined a 60-day drug recovery program.

In 2017, Elliott revealed on social media that he had relapsed just days after celebrating 90 days sober. Despite his drug issues, Deadliest Catch executive producer Decker Watson tried to re-book Neese for 2017. Despite his best efforts, the showrunner couldn’t get Neese back on the Alaskan water.
