#9: Gilman, Colorado
High on a cliff, Gilman was the company town for the Eagle Mine. The town thrived until the EPA had to step in in 1984 due to contaminated groundwater. Houses still stand there with curtains in the windows, but only the current landowners have access to them, making it a “no-man’s land” even now. From a distance, it looks like a busy resort, but up close, there’s a creepy silence.
