#3: Flagstaff, Maine
Flagstaff was sacrificed for progress when the Dead River was dammed in 1950 to create a reservoir for hydroelectric power. This decision resulted in the town flooding beneath what is now Flagstaff Lake, forcing residents to leave their homes. When water levels drop, hikers and boaters occasionally see the submerged remnants of foundations and sections of the main street.
