#12: Glenrio, Texas/New Mexico
Glenrio, on the Texas-New Mexico border, was a popular destination along Route 66 before the completion of I-40 in the 1970s. Due to tourist avoidance, Glenrio’s economy fell apart overnight. Even though the “First/Last Motel in Texas” is now just a skeleton, its remnants can still be seen next to shuttered shops and run-down gas stations.
