#2: The Bomb-Dot-Com
Pronunciation makes absolutely no sense in the English language. Sure, we have rules, but those rules are constantly broken by random words and pronunciations that come out of the left field. Take this example of the words “womb” “tomb” and “bomb.” The person posting makes a great point that they should technically all be pronounced the same way because of their spelling.
Well, surprise – they’re not. “Womb” and “tomb” rhyme because they’re pronounced with the same “-oom” sound at the end. However, the word “bomb” doesn’t play by those rules. It has an explosively different way of being pronounced (sorry) and there seems to be absolutely no reason for it. Who let the word “bomb” think it was so special? How DARE every letter of that word be a part of the pronunciation!
