Going for a swim looked very different in the past. Around 1915, these women on holiday wore heavy, dark wool bathing suits designed for modesty, not for swimming laps. These outfits were complicated affairs, pairing short tunic skirts over dark trousers or thick stockings. The look was complemented by matching canvas swim shoes to protect their feet and snug-fitting caps to keep their hair dry. I wonder how anyone managed to move in the water wearing all that.
