#9: Tackling Travesties (1975–1976)
Many actors would have been happy to ride the Rocky Horror wave for years. Not Tim Curry. Immediately after the film, he pivoted back to serious theater, determined not to be typecast. From 1975 to 1976, he starred as the Dadaist poet Tristan Tzara in Tom Stoppard’s witty play Travesties, first in London and then on Broadway. The role couldn’t have been more different from Frank-N-Furter. It was a clear statement to the world: he was a classically trained actor whose range went far beyond fishnets and musical numbers.
