#20: School Events Were Community Events
Every play, concert, or game packed the house. In towns under 10,000, gymnasiums and auditoriums were the main event spaces. An ’80s talent show or choir concert became a legit night out, with neighbors chatting about it at diners for weeks. These gatherings created shared stories that everyone owned. The school ran the social calendar, and trust me, everyone had a front-row seat.
