#50: A Passive-Aggressive Hurry Up
Americans are big fans of saying the phrase “at your earliest convenience.” It means to get something done as soon as possible. It’s a polite way of saying, “Hurry up!” However, is it actually polite? Or is it just a way of dancing around the big issue, aka someone being too slow?

This person has a valid point! One thing non-Americans make fun of Americans for is how they like to sugar-coat some words, and this phrase fits right in that category. How would American employees react if their bosses told them to hurry up instead? Maybe they’d actually get the work done faster.
