#39: Stating Punctuation
Periods, exclamation marks, and question marks always go at the end of a sentence when you’re writing. But, how about when you’re talking? Can you imagine how funny it would be if someone got all excited and said the words “exclamation mark” at the end of a sentence? That might sound silly, but the Americans aren’t too far off from doing something like this.
Americans are totally guilty of saying “period” at the end of a sentence, sometimes for several sentences in a row! Do they think people won’t know that their sentence is over? Or are they just using it for extra emphasis and dramatic effect? Either way, non-Americans find it hilarious. They may as well start announcing questions and exclamation marks at the end of their sentences.
