So Close Yet So Far Away
This photo is a composite shot of the night sky on Earth, along with the Andromeda galaxy. It is real and untouched – like the majority of the photos on this list. It would look a bit more normal had it been a bit brighter.
Andromeda is our Milky Way’s next-door neighbor, with the two eventually becoming flatmates as Andromeda races toward our Milky Way at 70 miles per second. The result – collision and a merger in about five billion years, so not to worry. This event will be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence – most of us won’t be around to witness it.
