You’re Easy to Forget
“While I was studying in Paris, I worked night shifts at a hotel near the Hôtel de Ville district. These shifts lasted from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and I often went without much sleep for several consecutive nights. It became a common occurrence for the hotel manager to forget to relieve me in the morning, causing me to wait for hours, barely able to stay awake. Whenever I politely pointed out my exhaustion and their lateness, the manager would simply brush it off, saying, ‘I guess we forgot about you.’

“Fed up with this situation, I decided to attend a job interview for a position that had daytime hours, which would allow me to get proper sleep at night. When I learned that I had been accepted for the new job, I waited until my Friday evening shift was about to begin and called my manager. [Me]: “Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve secured a new job starting next Monday, so I won’t be coming in tonight or ever again.” [Manager]: “What do you… but you can’t… why didn’t you say something sooner?” [Me]: “I guess I forgot about you.”
