Which makes you wonder—what compels them to experiment with all of these strange food items over the years? Why not stick to what they do best – cheap burgers and greasy fries? McDonald’s has had many limited-edition items over the years, and not all of them have been winners. #1: McDonald’s McLean Deluxe (1991–1996)
By the 1990s, McDonald’s was already a well-established fast-food chain with a fan base that came back time after time for their beloved burgers, fries, and shakes. In that decade, though, people were becoming more health-conscious, and diet fads were on the rise, which may be why McDonald’s released the McLean Deluxe, a low-fat burger made with seaweed extract that was meant to present a “healthier” alternative to the classic burger, but was panned for its taste.
