#40 Overly Silly
There are two hallmarks of Douglas Adams’ time as script editor. First, there are some amazing displays of creativity coupled with solid Science Fiction ideas. Second, the level of ridiculousness occasionally rises to unacceptably high heights.
Tom Baker, who by this point felt untouchable, is largely to blame. The rest of the cast picks up on his irreverence and follows suit (including his drinking buddy, Graham Crowden). Some viewers found this to be too much of a departure from the show’s usual tone, which begs the question of why they even watch Doctor Who.
