#19 Dark Water
Even though the show isn’t afraid to kill off characters occasionally, Doctor Who doesn’t typically deal with death and the afterlife. However, in Dark Water, Peter Capaldi’s Doctor confronts the harrowing reality of what happens to humans after they die. If we believe the legend, the soul continues to have ties to the physical body after death, so the cremation fire would still feel intense to the deceased.
Fans were infuriated by this plot twist. No one enjoys being brought down to earth with the grim reality of death, much less the possibility of eternal torment. However, the BBC has stuck to the story and hasn’t altered the plot.
