#17 Love and Monsters
Many early viewers of the new series find the episode Love and Monsters deeply humiliating, making it a prime example of the “you either love it or you hate it” phenomenon. The story took a chance by focusing on a supporting character rather than the Doctor in an effort to create an emotional tale about humans coping with aliens.
The problem, however, lay in the final product. The Abzorbaloff alien suit appeared flimsy and implausible, and the story’s resolution read like a sour punchline. The two protagonists made a bit of a mature joke that upset the audience, and it wasn’t just that the love interest was transformed into a slab of pavement.
