#12: Benjamin Franklin – The Freemasons
Benjamin Franklin loved printing books, inventing bifocals, and attending secret meetings. Franklin entered Saint John’s Lodge in Philadelphia in 1731. He became the Grand Master of Pennsylvania just three years later and printed the first Masonic book in the colonies. When he moved to France to negotiate wartime alliances, he used local French lodges to meet influential politicians and secure financial backing for the American cause.
