#16: The Robins (1949)

Before The Coasters, there were The Robins. Based in Los Angeles, they worked with Leiber and Stoller, blending humor with R&B rhythm. Their song “Smokey Joe’s Café” was an early hit that set the stage for The Coasters’ later success. The Robins’ clever lyrics and vocal interplay helped shape the early blueprint for comedy-infused rock and roll.
