Though born in Brooklyn, Abbe Lane got huge stardom across Europe as a singer and actress. Performing alongside her husband, legendary bandleader Xavier Cugat, Lane’s wardrobe and dance routines made her a sensation in Italian comedies and musicals. Hits like their song “Panamore” (1955) highlighted her musical talent. Lane proved that American starlets could captivate international audiences just as easily as Hollywood crowds. She later released some successful solo pop albums.
