The Shirelles were one of the most successful girl groups of the early 1960s, making millions for Scepter Records. The label set up a trust account that was supposed to hold the girls’ royalties until they turned 21. However, when the singers reached that age, they discovered that all their money had vanished due to dishonest accounting tricks. They got broke and had to spend years in huge legal battles.
