
The 1964 World’s Fair in New York City was a unique event that displayed the latest technology and forward-thinking ideas about the future. The pavilions and exhibits of the fair provided (or at least tried to provide) a glimpse of life decades in the future. Some of the predictions were a little wild, but many have come true in incredible ways. Let’s look at some of those predictions and how they match up with today’s innovations.
#1: The Rise of the “Personal Communicator”
In 1964, Bell Systems introduced the Picturephone, predicting a world where visual communication would be the norm. It anticipated video calls, although you had to go to special booths, and it was a little pricey for a bulky device. Nowadays, our smartphones allow us to connect face-to-face with anyone, anywhere. We don’t need a special booth, we can now video chat from anywhere.
