#8: Maps
Road trips used to require someone in the passenger seat unfolding a map large enough to block the windshield and possibly alter the weather. Teens learned routes, exits, landmarks, and the ancient art of saying, “I think we missed it,” far too late. GPS made travel easier, safer, and less marital-conflict adjacent. Still, paper maps gave direction a physical drama. Getting lost was not a glitch. It was part of the adventure, usually with snacks melting in the back seat.
