#7: Unhelpful Interference
From what I’ve heard from friends of mine who are teachers, parents can be the worst part of teaching. Don’t get me wrong; it’s important to advocate for your child, especially if you have a genuine reason to believe that they have special needs or that something is not going as it should in their education.
But you should also keep in mind that you’re getting a lot of your understanding about what happens at school from your kid, and they’re probably not an unbiased source. Do you really think it’s likely that your student is failing because “the teacher hates him”? Or is it just possible that your kid, being a kid, isn’t turning in their homework, and that’s why they’re failing? Just keep in mind that being a jerk to your kid’s teacher could be hurting them more than helping them at school.
