#25: Young Hearts Run Free
Kids today are growing up in a different world than I did. We used to have so much freedom and unstructured playtime in our lives. Maybe your mom would sign you up for soccer or violin lessons, but there were still huge stretches of your life where your parents would turn you out of doors and let you run wild.
Now it seems like kids just live their lives according to a really stringent set of rules and schedules, partly because the world has changed so that people are more nervous about letting their kids run free, partly because there’s so much emphasis on setting your kid up for success by starting them early with a million extracurriculars. As this teacher said, don’t you wish you could just tell these kids that sometimes it’s okay to do what they want, even break the rules occasionally?
