#20: Required Reading
When you’re young, you imagine that your teacher has full control over what goes on in the classroom: the curriculum, the books you read, and the lessons you have. You imagine that if a teacher is teaching you about Lewis and Clark expedition, it’s because they have decided it’s important for you to understand that.
Then you get older, and you get to know teachers, and you realize that is not the case at all. Though they may make individual lesson plans, their hands are largely tied concerning what is taught in the classroom and sometimes even the method in which it’s taught. Do you hate the book you have to read? There’s a good chance your teacher does too, but that decision came down from higher up, and she can’t do anything about it.
