#16: Just Looking Out for You
I imagine that being a teacher is, in some ways, a lot like being a parent, and not just because you have to clean up messes made by noisy children. Whether you are a teacher or a parent, it seems like you often have to make decisions that are for the good of the child, but the child, not quite wise or experienced enough to understand, just gets upset with you.
Of course, the only time I got in trouble for talking too much in class, it felt ridiculous because the teacher was also the football coach, and he let the jocks and cheerleaders get away with murder while I got in trouble for talking quietly to a friend. But maybe I’m wrong! Maybe I didn’t see it at the time, but he was just trying to do me a favor.
