Wifi was introduced in the late 90s and is still considered a relatively new invention. Most people —namely, older generations—haven’t grown up with Wifi, which may be why some people are having trouble pronouncing it correctly.

As it turns out, as many as 8% of Americans pronounce Wi-Fi wrong as “wiffy” rather than “why-fi.” You could attribute this to not having grown up with this technology, but some people think Boomers do it out of spite to tick off younger generations.
